Forces Driving Change in an Organization
There are many impediments to effectively implementing organizational change initiatives. Some of the stakeholders may be resistant to the change initiatives for fear of losing their jobs while others such as the management and business executives may be against the change projects because of the huge costs involved. It is therefore prudent for the change initiators to clearly examine the impacts of the proposed solutions and weigh the benefits against the challenges. In the healthcare industry it is also important to analyze the forces driving change in the healthcare facilities. Abrazo Central Hospital is situated in Phoenix and the hospital`s mission and vision aims at improving the health care with employees embracing health initiatives. The hospital is part of the community network. The hospital`s mission is to dedicate the resources to delivering compassionate, high quality, affordable health services serving and advocating for the disadvantaged ones in the society; and partnering with others in the community to improve the quality of life. The hospital`s vision is to establish a long-term relationship by changing the way healthcare is delivered in the community. The values of the hospital are based on integrity, respect, safety, innovation, and accountability. The hospital has a capacity of five hundred beds, and as the manager, it remains my responsibility to ensure that the hospital provides better healthcare to the patients. Abrazo’s strong mission and vision help to critically evaluate and analyze the organizations viability and credibility. They provide the necessary driving forces and support to ensure the provision of quality healthcare to all patients.
External and internal forces that drive organizational change
With globalization, it is vital to have a clear understanding of managing an organization. The hospital`s environment includes factors that influence how the hospital functions and makes decisions. The internal forces driving organizational change are events and situations taking place within the organization, and they are under the control of the organization. They include technological capacity, organizational culture, financial management, poor delivery and employee morale
Technological capacity
With innovations and inventions coming up on a daily basis, the old ones become obsolete. The organization should embrace technological changes because it will shape the hospital`s operations in the long run. Health facilities are sensitive and it is important for the organization to have modernized equipment to provide better healthcare to the patients. Lack of modernized equipment will drive a change within the organization to purchase modernized equipment (Wilensky, 2015).
Organizational culture
The organisational culture can be defined as the study of individuals or a group in the company. Successful organizations listen to their employees and are always goal oriented. Such organizations take risks and are very successful. Lack of an organizational culture within the hospital will demoralize the employees and therefore, it will drive a change within the organization to have a better organizational culture. A well-organized culture positively affects the production of the organization (Burke & Noumair, 2015).
Financial management
Financial management is a major factor in any organization. Without adequate funds, the business will not do well because money and business are directly proportional. Lack of adequate funds within the hospital will result in poor service delivery because the hospital will be unable to purchase modernized equipment and even pay its employees. The hospital will have a bad reputation and eventually it will drive a change within the organization to effectively manage its funds. Therefore, financial management is very important in a business organization because of its powerful stand in the internal driving force (Bolman & Deal, 2017).
Poor delivery
A hospital is a sensitive area, and therefore, the health practitioners should strive to provide quality services to the patients. If the hospital does not provide quality services to the patients then they will look for alternative healthcare providers that will provide better services. Therefore, poor service delivery will drive a change within an organization to improve the services it offers to its consumers and reflects the mission and vision of the institution (Bolman & Deal, 2017).
Employee morale
The confidence and strength of an individual or a group are vital in the success of the organization. If the staff in the organization lack morale or are not committed in their work, then the organization may not be able to achieve its overall objectives. The organization may introduce a change that will boost the staff’s morale if they are currently unmotivated. To boost the confidence of the employees, they should be provided with mental confidence (Wilensky, 2015).
External driving forces
New competitors
With new competitors, it implies more challenges for Abrazo Central Hospital because new competitors come up with new technology, ideas and innovations hence satisfying the customers` needs. Therefore, the organization may introduce a change that will enable it obtain a competitive advantage over the others or make it remain relevant in the industry. If it will not introdu...
