Developing an evaluation plan
In this research project, the PICO question is: in adult patients aged 50 years and above (P), is the use of nonpharmacological measures (I) more effective than pharmacological measures (C) in reducing anxiety (O) prior to cardiac surgery? The proposed solution is the use of nonpharmacological measures such as preoperative education and music therapy prior to cardiac surgery to reduce their levels of anxiety and fear.
Methods for evaluating the effectiveness of proposed solution
To assess the effectiveness of the proposed solution, preoperative educational programs and music interventions would be provided to patients aged 50 years or older who are scheduled to undergo coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery in order to reduce their emotional stress and anxiety. During the waiting period of heart surgery, patients would be given education comprising information that the patients have to know. Music intervention would be provided to create a comforting, calm atmosphere that is geared toward decreasing levels of anxiety in pre-operative patients (Goodman, 2009). The patients would be closely monitored before they undergo cardiac surgery to determine their levels of anxiety. If their levels of anxiety would have decreased after the educational and music interventions have been applied, then the proposed solution would be considered as being effective in the reduction of anxiety levels in pre-operative patients. However, if the anxiety levels are still high, then the proposed solution would not be considered as being effective (Boni, Martinez& Saccomann, 2013).
Variables to be assessed when evaluating project outcomes
Staff perceptions and attitudes: the attitudes and perceptions of workers are of major importance given that the success of the proposed solution vastly relies on the way the organization’s employees would consider it. This basically means that if the staffs in the healthcare facility have positive attitudes and perceptions towards it, then it would be successful. Conversely, if they have negative perceptions and attitudes towards the proposed change, then it would most likely not be successful since the employees would not be agreeable and receptive of it and they will tend to resist it and its execution.
Attitudes and perceptions of patients toward the proposed solution:in essence, the proposed solution would be provided t...
