Elimination of Complexities In nursing, comprehensive care consists of examination, diagnosis, planning, evaluation, and application of patient information (Cao, Chu, Yu, & Sun, 2021). Such information is provided in the verbal form either by the patient, spouse, relative, or current caretaker. The application of the concept of functional patterns developed by Marjorie Gordon in 1994 provides nurses with systematic guidance in gathering this information before making diagnostic and treatment plans for the patient (Khatiban, Tohidi, & Shahdoust, 2019). The 11 functional health patterns include how the patient manages their health, their nutritional patterns, excretory function, exercise regime, cognitive & rest pattern, self-perception, sexuality, reproduction, stress tolerance, and belief pattern. The excretory function of the functional patterns is particularly important because it plays a key role in the elimination of complexities. The three basic types of excretion include skin, bowel, and bladder (Tьren & Enз, 2020). The relevance of functional health patterns in the elimination of complexities is apparent in diseases like kidney failure. The disease impairs the swift removal of waste from the blood resulting in accumulation disproportion of chemical composition (Bindroo, Quintanilla Rodriguez, & Challa, 2022).
