Pico Question Examples Speech Language Pathology
* Attention; this assingment is a continuation of other assignments i will be posting and i need one writer for all the assignments because all the assignment will be put together as one completed project at the end of this class. All RESEARCH PAPERS ARE TO COME FROM THE gcu library. I chose the obstructive sleep apnea as a topic to focuse on but i am open to any topic the writer feels will be able to get enough research papers on.
Develop a searchable question using the PICOT format. (The question is a single statement identifying the components of PICOT.)
Refer to "Developing a Question"
example
Developing a Question
Recall the components of PICOT from your research course:
(P) Population of Focus
(I) Intervention
(C) Comparison
(O) Outcome
(T) Time
Identify each of the components in relation to your topic.
P –
I –
C –

Then, develop a PICO question/statement.
Examples of PICO questions/statements:
In adult cardiac surgery patients experiencing post-operative pain (P) immediately following surgery (P), is morphine (I) or fentanyl (C), administered intravenously, more effective in reducing postoperative pain (O)?
For immune-compromised patients, 50 years and older (P), does the use of pneumonia vaccine (I) reduce the future risk of pneumonia (O) compared with patients who have not received the vaccine (C)?
Obstructive Sleep Apnea

For this study, the research question will be "In adult patients with mild Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) (P); is CPAP therapy (I) or other modalities (C), for example, surgery, administered in early disease more effective in reducing the occurrence of complications (O)?". OSA is a sleep-related respiratory disease that is characterized by intermittent upper-airway restriction, thus, impairing sleep and ventilation (Kapur, 2010). Constriction of the upper airway is attributed to a reduction in the dilator activity of the upper airway muscles during sleep, anatomical features and reduction in end-expiratory lung volume in sleep state. The occurrence of OSA is attributed to male gender, obesity and age (elderly). It has been attributed to deaths and morbidity due to the development of complications associated with the disease (Butt, Dwivedi, Lip, Khair, and Shantsila, 2012).
OSA can be classified into mild, moderate and severe disease depending on the ...
