Nurses have the responsibility to take care of their clients by ensuring that they are in good health and protecting them from harm (College of Nursing in Ontario, CNO, 2014). Some guidelines control the practices and relationships in the nursing profession, including the responsibilities of ensuring they abide by these rules. In cases where patients’ interests vary from these guidelines, the nurses need to explain to them the guiding rules. The final decision must not breach their relationship or harm any of them (CNO, 2014). In a case where a client’s family wants to appreciate the nurse with a $200 token, an issue of ethical dilemma arises. As a nurse, I should refer to the guidelines that dictate the terms of practice.
