For this Case Assignment, you are part of a medical research team and are tasked with gaining informed consent from potential participants. The study will seek to test an experimental drug with patients suffering from late-stage leukemia. The sample will be divided into a control group and the experimental group. Participants in the control group will be given a placebo, which could increase the progression of their disease. The sample will be composed of children.

Medical research that involves the use of human beings as its participants can be quite demanding in regards to the ethical threshold to be observed. It is prudent for any research team to seek the permission of the people who have been identified to take part in the research (Stauch, 2013). In this case, the research to be conducted is on the effectiveness of an experimental drug that will be used for patients suffering from leukemia. The proposed sample population is children who have late-stage leukemia and they will be divided into two groups. One of the groups will form the control group while the other would form the experimental group. Since the experiment will be conducted on children, the consent will be sought from their parents or guardians. Some of the questions that are expected from their parents include firstly, the safety of the whole procedure and some of the possible negative implications of the whole experiment.
Secondly, the parents would seek to know the duration of the experiment, and if the team would make a follow up on the different children after the experiment. Thirdly, it is expected that the parents would be interested in understanding all the terms and conditions of the experiment alongside all the legal provisions that will be used to protect their interests and those of their children. The fourth question that is expected to be raised by the parents are the modalities of compensation and other benefits that could accrue to them like the future treatment of their children at little or no cost. The final question that would be expected from the parents is the modalities of withdrawing from the experiment at any given point of the experiment.
