Nurses are the frontline medical officers who interact with the patients more than any other officer working in the same setting. There is a compelling need for them to be compassionate and caring to the patients they interact with as they dispense their obligations. The creation of trust between the patient and the institution depends on their relationship with the nurse. The nurses have the task of ensuring the patients trust the hospital. These medical officers should be careful not to upset the patient because of the possible consequences, which may arise when the perceived or real trust is breached. Protection of the patient private information is a significant duty of any frontline officer. The paper analyzes a specific compliance management scenario describing the mistakes noted. It also describes the error type, determining whether it is a violation of The Organization Compliance or a legal concern. Finally, it will come up with the best solution for the mistakes.
Health mistakes are in the compliance management scenario involving Stevens. The first error is that the person recording the patient records left important information about the client. Here, the lack of details indicating that Mr. Stevens's cancer treatment information was confidential from his family is the mistake. Indication of every small detail regarding the patient records helps to avoid any confusion. The other mistake is the mix of patient's information with the same name. The realization of the three Joseph Stevens in the system shows the lack of proper distinction among the clients with the same name. The best way to go about this situation is by using a unique number for every client.
The other mistake is the lack of similarity of the contacts in the patient’s record and the one in the patient management system. The listing of Mr. Stevens's son’s phone number in the father’s medical record confuses the team. Disagreements between Joseph Steven and the family came about because of the mistake. Another mistake seen in the scenario is in Denise’s way of communication. She left too many details on the voicemail despite the risk of exposing the medical details to the wrong person. The protection of the patients' private information can be through leaving the date and time of appointment on the voicemail. Blocking of the detailed information avoids any future legal incidences. Finally, the hospital overworking the front desk workers is very wrong. The fact that Denise looked very tired at 11.00 AM shows that the workload is too much. With tired people, confusions are prone to occur. The hospital needs to add more workers to avoid any more mistakes.
The five mistakes found in the scenario were both a violation of the organization's compliance and legal concern. Leaking a patient’s confidential information is a breaking of the law. Every patient has a right to decide who should or should not know about their medical condition. The doctor can only advise them on the importance of having family support.
