Major reforms have been implemented by various policy makers so as to improve the health services in a country. The health consumers are also demanding quality and cost effective measures in the health sector. The tremendous growth has been attributed to the participation of the government as well as the private sector. There is a great difference between Australia and Saudi Arabia. These two countries differ greatly in religion, cultural beliefs and language. In Saudi Arabia, the state religion is Islam while the national language is Arabic. In contrast to Australia, the government in Saudi Arabia consists of religious leaders. Australian government is made up of political elected leaders. Australia also lacks a common state religion and adopts English as the national language. This paper will focus on highlighting the major differences between the health system in Saudi Arabia and Australia. The Department of Health and Ageing acts as the health agent for the government of Australia. Health care services are provided by public and private sector. The Government plays a key role in both private and public sector. It is responsible for setting national health policies that govern the provision of health services in Australia. The health in Australia comprises both a private and a public sector (DFAT, 2011). The key players in the health sector include the federal government, local government, state and territory government. The state and territory government provides psychiatric services, public health services as well as other hospital based services. The local government on the other hand, provides environmental control health services as well as primary preventive services for the community. In Saudi Arabia the health sector is run by the Ministry of Health on behalf of the Government. It is involved in providing rehabilitative, curative and preventive health care services for the people of the public. The health sector is made up of the private and the public sector. The government however, is only involved in running the public health sector. Other key players in the health sector include the Ministry of Defense and Aviation, the Saudi Arabian National Guard (SANG) and the Ministry of Interior (MOI). In addition other government agent for example the Ministry of Education is involved in providing health care services to their affiliated groups (Lynn, 2001). The Australian Government provides universal health care services and pharmaceutical services. These are undertaken by both the public and the private sector. In 1984, the Government through the Department of Health and Ageing set up the Medicare program (DFAT, 2011). This program provides access to free or subsidized medical care services to the citizens of Australia. The program is funded by the Government through tax collected from the citizen.
