Application of the Differences Between Negligence and Malpractice in Nursing

The terms negligence and malpractice are often used interchangeably, especially among healthcare practitioners such as nurses. According to Berlin (2017), medical negligence is the failure by a practitioner such as a nurse to provide care in a reasonable way that will not cause harm to a patient. Several elements may result in a nurse may be deemed to have been negligent when providing care to patients. One of them is a breach of duty of care when a nurse fails to provide care or acts in a way that negatively affects a patient's care (Berlin, 2017). Also, negligence may be deemed to have happened if a nurse engaged in acts that result in an injury or other form of damage to the patient.
