Iron deficiency anemia is the condition that Ms A has based on lab results. Iron deficiency anemia can result from insufficient intake of iron in the diet or excessive loss of iron as a result of bleeding whereby the body loses more red blood cells than can be replaced. Iron is important for building healthy muscles and bones and for red blood cells production.
Menorrhagia is also known as hematomunia, it is a condition characterized by prolonged and usually heavy menstruation. The cause varies from disruption of normal hormonal regulation, abnormal blood clotting or disorders of the uterus’ endometrial lining menorrhagia can b accompanied by dysmenorrhagia which is painful and difficult menstruation. Women with menorrhagia and dysmenorrheal are usually at risk of anemia because of the higher than normal blood loss of blood during menstruation the type of anemia caused by menorrhagia is iron deficiency anemia. Iron is contained in red blood cells contained in blood, therefore blood loss results in iron loss.
Hemoglobin is a protein molecule that carries oxygen from the lungs to body tissues found in red blood cells. The normal hemoglobin range for adult women is 12.0 to 15.5 grams per deciliter (Beutler & Waalen, 2006). Ms A hemoglobin level is 8 grams per deciliter far below the normal level, low hemoglobin level is referred to as low red blood count or anemia. The lack of iron in Mrs A’s blood leads to inability to synthesize hemoglobin. Low hemoglobin leads to the inability to carry enough oxygen in the body causing fatigue and dizziness. The elevated heart rate and respiratory rate is as a result of the body trying to obtain as much oxygen and pump as much blood within the body to substitute for the lack of hemoglobin.
