Virtue Ethics Theory and Fundamental Canons
Portions That Best Reflect the Principles of the Chosen Theory
Among the “Fundamental canons”, portion five, which states that “avoid deceptive acts”, best reflects the main principles of the chosen theory (NSPE, 2019). It is through deception that people lose most of their ethical values. Since the virtue ethics theory advocates for honesty, justice, integrity, fidelity, and fairness, “avoidance of deceptive acts” sounds like an equivalent short sentence to the principles of the theory (Velasquez, Andre, & Meyer, 1988). The portion summarizes all the values entailed in this theory. Part 6 also portrays the main principles of the theory. It is worth noticing that a responsible and honourable person is generous, honest, just, prudent, and courageous. All these qualities reflect what is in the virtue ethics theory. To this end, portion 5 and 6 hail out as the best reflectors of the principles in the chosen theory.

This portion implies that engineers should work only on projects they have adequate knowledge and experience. In other words, they should avoid perusing new ventures in their field of specialization. However, this contradicts with the virtue ethics theory that preaches courage and prudence (Velasquez, Andre, & Meyer, 1988). In the modern world, it is old-fashioned for people to fear to undertake risks. As it is in business, taking a chance in the engineering department is an inevitable phenomenon...
