Shanghai Maglev Train is a magnetic levitation line that operates within Shanghai. It connects Shanghai to various towns and cities. The line stands out as the third magnetic levitation line operating commercially in history (it comes third after the British Birmingham Maglev and the Germany M-Bhan) (Briginshaw 2003). It is also currently the oldest magnetic levitation line which is still in use, as well as the first commercial high-speed magnetic levitation line with cruising speeds of up to 431 km/h (268 mph). As such, it has remained one of the most reliable and important railway lines in China. The maglev is connects different areas where transit takes place (Cunningham 2007). Throughout history, rail lines have had both positive and negative social effects on the society (Liu et al. 2014). One of such effects in this case is that it will support creation of new journeys. The availability of a fast and reliable rail line will take passengers from other types of transport such as buses.
