Children are naturally social creatures and easily interact with other human beings. As children grow, they become aware of their gender identity and are associated with activities that conform to either male or female gender. Environmental interactions have been a key influence on gender identity and what is expected of our children from a young age. This paper discusses the role of the society in determining how girls and boys act and see themselves.
Parents and guardians are the primary agents of socialization for children. Parents introduce their children to the world, acting as the first source of emotional support, guidance, and moral instruction. The family members will interact with the child and teach them how boys and girls should behave (Farzana & Rahman, 2022). Baby X’s parents play a critical role by consciously choosing to raise their child without imposing traditional gender norms. They provide Baby X with a diverse range of toys, from dolls to trucks, and allow Baby X to choose clothing from both the boys' and girls' sections (Gould, 2022). Moreover, parents act as role models, demonstrating behaviors that children are likely to imitate. When a girl sees her mother spending more time to put the house in order and support her husband when he returns from work, she will grow up knowing that females are helpers to males. Similarly, a boy who sees his father working hard in the construction industry and coming home exhausted will understand that a male role is to provide for his family.
