Metacognition allows the reader to adjust the speed of the text depending on how difficult it is. This makes it easy for them to understand its meaning rather than just reading to complete the text. Through this strategy, students are able to identify the difficult areas in the text and pay more attention to such areas in order to understand (Chevalier, Parrila, Ritchie & Deacon, 2017). Understanding the difficult areas can be done by restating the sentences using phrases that the student can understand better. In addition, the strategy enables the student to review the purpose of the reading before they can commence.
Semantic and graphic organizers help the student to illustrate the different concepts outlined in the text through the use of diagrams. As a result, it becomes easy to connect the various concepts into something meaningful.
