Teacher training methods are essential in preparing them better and positioning them so that once they go to teach, they will be well-equipped with the necessary knowledge and experience (Ingvarson & Rowley,2017). The concurrent model consists of a pedagogical study where the candidates train on the content and teaching of the specific subject area. Conversely, the consecutive model ensures candidates study the subject area for the entire bachelor’s degree and then will study pedagogy separately for extra time. These methods are both good in their different capacities; they offer different exposure and experience to candidates. The concurrent method offers a more integrated learning experience to candidates. However, it does not offer the flexibility required in the market as candidates have to make early choices in the midst of their careers, where once may make uninformed choices. The consecutive model is flexible as it provides enough tie to candidates wishing to switch careers and pursue other interests. Students may make changes based on their interests after studying their subject area. However, it offers a less integrated learning experience between the subject area and the pedagogical studies. Candidates do not socialize enough in their profession.
According to Ingvarson & Rowley (2017), the best teacher preparation system has special features that make it stand out and produce quality and well-prepared teachers. First, the system must be competitive because the candidates selected to undergo training must be top performers.
