Summative Assessment: Family Connections Guide

Exam Content Families of early childhood-aged children are often looking for guidance as they navigate the nuances of schools and their child’s educational needs. As an early childhood educator, you will be sharing your knowledge of child development, offering emotional support, and helping families gain access to the tools and resources to best advocate for their child. This support will help parents with the knowledge and skills they need to be effective advocates for their child’s education. Imagine this scenario: As part of the early childhood care center's initiative to promote community and family relationships and improve interactions with parents, you will create a guide to describe some of the school and community-based programs and services available to young children and families in your local area. Research your local area (e.g., community, city/town, county) and schools for programs and services available to young children and families related to: Child development (e.g., developmental screenings, school readiness) Intervention services (e.g., state agencies, speech/language and occupational therapies) Children’s advocacy, including for children with disabilities (e.g., special education, disability resources) Research the following collaboration and engagement opportunities that support early childhood development and learning: Current partnerships between schools, community organizations, and/or families in your local area School and community-based activities or events for children and families to attend Create a 2- to 3-page guide for families of early childhood-aged children to support their navigation of the many school and community-based programs and services available to young children and families. Complete the following in your guide: Write an introduction to your family connections guide that provides an overview of the purposes of the programs and services related to child development, intervention, and children’s advocacy. Describe a minimum of 3 school-based programs and/or services for young children and their families that address child development, intervention, and/or children’s advocacy, including: Stakeholders involved (e.g., school staff, service providers) How the program/service supports early childhood learning and development Describe a minimum of 3 community-based programs and/or services for young children and their families that address child development, intervention, and/or children’s advocacy, including: Stakeholders involved (e.g., providers or personnel, agencies, organizations) How the program/service supports early childhood learning and development Describe a minimum of 2 partnerships between local schools, community organizations, and/or families that addresses early childhood learning and development, including: Stakeholders involved (e.g., children, school staff, community members/organizations, family members) Partnership’s purpose and what specifically makes it successful Describe a local school or community-based activity and/or event for each month of the school year (total of 9), starting in September and ending in May, for young children and their families, including: Specific details (e.g., title/name, date and time, and location) How the activity/event supports early childhood learning and development ******* Good afternoon, the local area is New Jersey, specifically Monmouth county area.
