Medium (2016) insists that efforts to address structural inequalities must start with individuals and later narrow down to organizations. Institutions are a summation of the attitudes and perspectives of individuals working there. First, children and adolescents from marginalized groups experience higher levels of stress due to socioeconomic challenges compared to their counterparts from wealthy backgrounds. In the United States, marginalized groups cannot access quality essential services and this impacts their development path. Collins and Wanamaker (2017) report that the black-white income ratio was 64% in 2010, and this undermines equal economic progress in the United States. In my previous roles as a voluntary worker, I have witnessed children living with disabilities from humble families struggling to enroll their children into specialized school programs.
