It is important to have a clear idea of what your expectations are for your students.
Part 1: List your classroom rules/expectations in the language you will present to your students. Some things to consider:
• Think about age appropriateness
• Think about whether you are willing/able to enforce them consistently
• Are there standard, tiered consequences that accompany your rules? (eg. verbal reminder, change seats, calls home, referrals, etc..) Sometimes, these are presented simultaneously with the rules.
Part 2: In 1-2 paragraphs explain the rationale you used to design your classroom rules.
Part 3: In 1-2 paragraphs, explain the process you will use to introduce your students to the rules/expectations for your classroom. Some things to consider:
• When will you introduce the rules?
• Will your students be involved in making the rules or will you provide them?
• How will you know that the students understand the rules and what they mean?
• Does your school have rules and/or standard consequences? Do your rules comply with these rules and/or consequences?

Classroom rules are an important part of the academic journey. Rules help students improve their academic prowess in addition to helping them when faced with difficulties. Teachers are responsible for their students in every situation. Students, on the other hand, are supposed to follow the set rules, and failure to do so should lead to consequences.
