Sketching the Digital Story From Four Domains
Many learners investigate their past and their surroundings by collecting photos and interviews. These data provide an opportunity for them to investigate and reflect on who they are as a leader. Digital stories that have been developed in the past have been quite powerful, as they are deep, moving reflection stories. These digital stories will be shared with classmates on a class networking platform. After viewing, a debriefing session can be scheduled to clarify and articulate points made in the video. Finally, a plan of action assignment allows students to develop specific action steps in their development as an anti-racist leader. The action steps have included: the development of additional digital stories, additional data collection (e.g., interviews), and the development of this exercise as a teaching and learning activity for equity leaders to use in their current transformational work in the educational environment. Note that a digital storytelling can be as simplistic as a set of pictures accompanied by narrative and as complex as fully produced videos. Whether either of these is used is less important than the powerful personal message of leadership that will be conveyed. This story should include the factors that brought you into the educational setting and describe the type of leader you were, are, and hope to become. In the end, you should state what you believe you are and want to become as a leader. Please employ the domains (biological, historical, racial/cultural, political) to tell your story. Below is an explanation of the domains and corresponding questions that will help you think about who you are in each domain. Some other Guiding Questions: • How have these four components informed your educational story? • What is your educational philosophy? What is your leadership philosophy? • What values and theorists have informed them? • What are your strategies to implementing one or both? • What kind of a leader are you and what kind do you want to become?

Historical Contributions to the development of the self:
One socio-historical event that has impacted my life is the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City in 2001. This event was a macro-level event that had a significant impact on people's lives worldwide. It led to the implementation of security measures at airports and other public places, changed foreign policies, and contributed to the ongoing war on terror. At the micro-level, this event impacted my historical positioning by shaping my perspective on the world and my sense of safety and security. As a result of this event, I became more aware of global politics and conflicts and developed a heightened sense of patriotism.
In terms of generational analysis, my ancestors' history brought me to the place I am now personally, professionally, and academically. My grandparents migrated to the United States from different parts of Europe to seek better opportunities for their families. They faced challenges such as language barriers and discrimination, but their resilience and hard work paved the way for their descendants' success.
Biological Contributions to the self:
When I compare pictures of myself as a youth to the present, I notice physical changes such as aging and weight gain. My physiological and genetic composition comes from both my parents, and I have inherited traits from each of them. I am privileged in this way because I have inherited good health from my family. I have a dominant composition of hazel eyes and dark hair, which I see in other relatives and my children.
In addition to physical changes, I also notice changes in my personality and behavior over time. I have grown and developed through various life experiences, and this has contributed to who I am today. Although my physiological and genetic makeup is determined by my parents, my environment has also played a role in shaping who I am. For example, growing up in a loving and supportive household h...
