Trauma is an emotional reaction after an unpleasant action or a series of events that may happen to an individual life (Thomas et al., 2019). In addition, trauma may cause severe mental disorders if a person does not seek advice from an expert. Notably, trauma may occur to anyone regardless of gender, race, sex, or ethnicity. Therefore, professionals, including teachers, should learn ways to identify and address such instances appropriately. This paper shall elaborate on the available opportunities and ways educators should embrace trauma-sensitive and healing-centered practices.
Opportunities for Educators
Educators may use center asset-based practices for learners in class (Loomis et al., 2019). Notably, the asset-based approach ensures that students can communicate their thoughts. In this case, these students can share their emotions with the educators and colleagues. As a result, traumatized students may feel relieved from sharing their experiences, making them comfortable in their present environments. At the same time, the learner can receive professional guidance from the educator, which will assist them in healing from traumatic experiences. Equally important, center asset-based practices encourage and mobilize the learners' abilities by instilling confidence that they may have lost due to trauma.
