Potential Threats to Validity for ASL Teaching
When conducting quantitative studies, some potential threats to validity might emerge, such as selection bias, instrumentation, testing, statistical analysis, and social interaction. In “The Validity of Probability Samples in Research on Deafness” by Kelly Lamar Crain and Thomas Kluwin, the authors made several methodological decisions intending to reduce threats to validity. First, they emphasized randomized trials with more controlled interventions (Crain & Kluwin, 2006). In addition, they performed careful sampling procedures to ensure that they ended up with the most appropriate participants who would enable them to achieve the overall objectives of their study. On the contrary, Crain and Kluwin might have neglected to address the threat to the validity of their study since they did not determine what constituted adequate evidence in their educational study (Crain & Kluwin, 2006).
