Organizational Leadership Styles

Essay Instructions:
Reflection is a vital leadership practice. Before we lead or coach others, we must analyze the current context. This prepares us to visualize where we are compared to where we want to go. The leadership styles prevalent in an organization will vary. Conventional thoughts might compartmentalize authentic leaders in the medical field, transactional leaders in businesses, and servant leadership in education. It’s more likely that all types of leadership exist in all those industries. Once we assess the landscape of our own organization or setting, we’re better prepared to move in the desired direction. In this assignment, you will reflect on the leaders in your organization and their leadership styles and present the findings in a product of your choice. Tip: The product is for your use as a reflective tool. You may choose whatever you feel is most helpful in framing your reflection. For example, you might design an infographic or create a Venn diagram. Step 1 Review the various leadership styles outlined in this module’s readings and presentations. Conduct additional research as needed to understand differences in the styles. Step 2 Analyze 5 leaders in your organization, their roles, and their most prevalent leadership styles. Include yourself in the analysis. Which leadership style(s) are prevalent in your organization? What makes each leadership style effective or ineffective for your organization? Step 3 Develop your reflection product. Clearly identify the leadership roles, the leadership styles associated with each role, and whether the style is effective or ineffective based on the leaders’ positions. Tip: Do not include the names of the leaders or other identifying information—only their roles. Include recommendations for leadership improvement. Consider what would be needed to make a concerted effort to adjust leadership styles to meet your organization’s needs better. Step 4 Submit your product as a PDF. Include APA-formatted in-text citations and a reference page or list.

However, it can demotivate employees if overused. Democratic leadership involves the team in decision-making and encouraging collective input. Democracy is effective in environments where creativity and collaboration are needed, but it can slow down decision-making processes. Thirdly, transformational leadership focuses on inspiring and motivating employees by fostering a shared vision (Northouse, 2018). Transformational leaders are effective in industries that are undergoing change or require innovation. Transactional leadership, conversely, is based on clear structures, rules, and rewards for performance. Transactional leadership is best suited for environments requiring strict control, but can stifle creativity (Meyer & Meijers, 2018). Moreover, servant leadership prioritizes the well-being of team members and focuses on their development. Servant leaders are effective in supportive and collaborative environments. However, servant leaders can sometimes lack a clear direction. Finally, laissez-faire leadership is a hands-off leadership style where team members have autonomy. It works best with highly skilled teams. However, laissez-faire leadership can lead to confusion if the team lacks direction. Analysis of Leadership Styles in the Organization The organizations showcases a prevalence of different leadership styles. Transformational leadership is seen in the CEO role, where the leader focuses on long-term vision and driving innovation.
