Lesson Objective
* What is the specific objective for this class?
* How will you assess student progress throughout this class period?
* How will you assess mastery of the objective? Include the specific questions or performance task used (i.e. do not just say exit ticket)

To help students learn about the area and circumference of a circle. Students should first be able to identify all the parts of a circle. Secondly, students should be able to understand the relationship between all the parts of a circle. The second objective should help in the uncovering of π as a key connector between the radius, diameter, area, and circumference of a circle. Thirdly, students should be able to calculate each of the parts of a circle given any of the three parts of a circle. Fourth, students should be able to make a connection between the area of a circle and the circumference of a circle. Fifth, the students should be able to derive formulas for calculating the area of a part of a circle.
1. Curriculum-based and continuous assessment tests – these will help to showcase a consistent performance outlook for all students.
2. Employment of multiple test formats – this is crucial in helping determine whether students are indeed learning or grasping the concepts and mathematical ideas dispensed. For example, at first, a fill-in-the-blank type of test can be used, followed by a multiple-choice format, and then a long answer format where students showcase their work. These should help showcase whether students have indeed grasped the parts of the whole lesson.
3. Student self-assessment – real progress is made when a student can identify or point out their failures or gaps in knowledge. So, students will be allowed to assess themselves and revise their work. Further, they will be asked to set personal goals in line with the lesson of parts of a whole.
4. Observation and interaction – informal interaction and observation can also be quite helpful in assessing the students. Through this method, students’ hidden weaknesses could be easily identified. Also, this can help reveal students’ strengths, further illuminating to the teacher the areas of focus.
The students will be expected to identify all the parts of a circle and use the parts to calculate the circumference of a circle. Further, the students should be able to calculate the area of a part of a circle using the parts of a circle provided. Some questions that can be used include:
1. The area of a half a circle is indicated as 12.5units2. Calculate the radius, diameter, and arc length of the half a circle shown.
2. Given the circumference of a circle as 5π. Derive a formula to calculate the area of the circle. Use the formula to calculate the area of the circle.

Unit context- Where does this lesson fall in the larger unit. Briefly, what comes before and what will come after this lesson in the unit.

This lesson falls in the larger unit of Geometry. The unit of geometry entails a lot of sections, with the area and circumference of circles being a si...
