In the same way that family setups play an integral role in the success of a student in class, so does it also impact the success of a teacher. The traditional interpretation of a family had the father and mother at the heart of every family, and this was easy to handle since matters to do with personality, performance and discipline could easily be coordinated. Currently, an educator might also be coming from such families, and this will automatically reflect in their understanding of success. Children develop and learn best through their daily interactions and play with families. When an educator or teacher builds knowledge, skill, and confidence for such interactions then they are creating the best environment for the wellbeing and development of the children.
My concept of an ideal family is indeed, the traditional one where both parents are there, live together with the children and work together to build their household. My family background too, has been a traditional one. It impacts teaching since there will always be a reference to it, whenever I think about the best possible way of handling learners. In other terms, it provides the template to use in general assessment of learners in relation to what is being taught. This however, often needs to be carefully navigated, given the fact that sticking so rigidly to it might result in an open bias and a general disregard of the realities of the current age.
