The Impact of the Instructional Design Models
The Rapid Instructional System Design (RISD) model entails accelerated learning techniques that endeavor to design the learning environment more flexibly and efficiently (Meier, 2000). It is based on four phases: preparation, presentation, practice, and performance. The preparation phase seeks to arouse the learners' interest as it ushers the presentation phase, which introduces them to their initial encounter with new knowledge. The practice stage allows learners to integrate the new knowledge and skills acquired, while the performance phase allows them to apply the same to real work. Using the RISD model in instructional design enables designers to operate agilely. In this regard, they can refine the instruction based on feedback, making instruction more relevant to the learners and instructors.
The Dick and Carey model considers the instructional design as a systems view of instruction rather than the view of instruction isolated. The model considers the interrelationships between the aspects of the design process. The model is critical in instructional design because it emphasizes the relationships between the various elements of instruction design (Instructional Designers of Penn State, n.d). Rather than consider each element in isolation, the Dick and Carey model allows designers to consider the instructional objectives, strategies, and assessment methods. The model's emphasis on interconnectedness ensures that aspects of the learners, like behavior and prior knowledge, are considered. This results in learning instruction that addresses the needs and expectations of the students.
The ADDIE model consists of five main stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (Taylor, 2016). Initially, t...
