DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RESPIRATION AND PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Respiration and photosynthesis are different because respiration causes energy release while photosynthesis absorbs energy. However, respiration occurs in all living things which results in breaking down of food in a process that releases energy. This catabolic process requires oxidation of carbohydrates like glucose resulting in water, carbon dioxide, and energy release (glucose + oxygen → water + carbon dioxide+ energy). In essence, respiration is vital to provide energy to living things and occurs during night and day. Nonetheless, it is possible to have anaerobic respiration for organisms, which do not require a lot of oxygen and live in areas with oxygen deficit. Yeast has the ability to respire anaerobically, but when this happens in human beings, there is energy release together with lactic acid (Dawson & Honeysett, 2001). The respiration process results to lower dry weight because of food utilization.
On the contrary, photosynthesis is an anabolic that occurs in plants that have chloroplast cells and takes place during the day. C...
