Instructional strategies are the heart of learning. Instructional strategies are the activities that are modeled, practiced, and then completed independently in various learning opportunities. As soon as an alignment between what will be measured and how it will be measured is defined, instructional strategies are considered.
Part 1: Developmentally Appropriate Instructional Strategies
You are providing professional development for early childhood educators in your area that focuses on developmentally appropriate instructional practices. Create a 12-15 slide digital presentation that includes the following:
Describe developmentally appropriate instructional practices for each of the following age ranges: birth-2, preschool, and K-Grade 3.
Select an age within the birth-age 2 range. Identify three developmental milestones from different developmental domains (cognitive, linguistic, social-emotional, and physical) for that age and describe developmentally appropriate activities for supporting each of the three milestones.
Select three early learning standards for preschoolers from different developmental domains and describe a developmentally appropriate activity to support each standard.
Select three state standards for a grade level within Grades K-3 and describe a developmentally appropriate activity to support each standard.
Support this part of the assignment with 2-3 scholarly resources.
Part 2: Planning Strategies
Using the class profile for the selected grade level, the standards from Topic 2, and the “COE Lesson Plan Template,” complete the following:
Section 1: Lesson Preparation – Grade level, subject, classroom and student factors/grouping, state learning standards, and specific learning targets/objectives.
Section 2: Multiple Means of Representation (modeling): Explain how you will present the content in various ways to meet the needs of different learners (e.g., graphic organizers, visual media, anchor chart, hands-on manipulatives, technology).
Section 2: Multiple Means of Engagement (guided practice): Explain how you will provide students with opportunities to explore, practice, and apply the content and academic language (e.g., collaborative group work, cooperative learning structures, hands-on activities, reading and writing activities, problem-solving).
Section 2: Multiple Means of Expression (independent practice/assessment): Explain how you will provide students with opportunities to demonstrate what they have learned. This includes formative and summative assessments to be implemented throughout the lesson. Explain how you will provide alternative means for response, selection, and composition to meet the needs of all students. You may use your Topic 3 assignment to inform this section.

Developmentally Appropriate Practices
Basically, instructional strategies should fit the age of the children or their development level in order to provide interesting, useful, and proper learning activities.
Birth-2 Years: This age group of children, especially those born to two years of age, experiences a lot of development in different domains and hence requires practices that promote development but at the same time are encouraging.
1 Cognitive Milestone: Object Permanence (around 8-12 months)
To enhance object permanence, caregivers can hide an object and then play peeking games like Peek-a-boo and Hide and Seek. These activities extend the infants’ knowledge of an object’s existence when out of sight and develop their strong cognitive skills of object permeance.
2 Linguistic Milestone: Signs and First Phrases (around one year old)
Reading picture books with the children is perfect for fostering linguistic learning as the child and the facilitator can engage in the reading together. The message fun in communicating during storytelling is that caregivers should tap on objects in the book and say the name of the object so infants can copy sounds and words. Repetitive phrases incorporated in songs also assist in the development of language since they enable infants to recognise words that are commonly used in the language.
3 Social-Emotional Milestone: One example of this social cognitive is attachment, while another is trusted by around one year of age.
Thus, caregiving that is attentive to the baby’s signals and predictable daily care that promotes trust in the caregiver is crucial for the infant. Through a comforting and routine approach and communication with the caregivers, infants gradually become more trusting and secure, which is essential for their social and emotional profile.
Preschool (3-5 Years): Children in this age group are very keen learners, and teaching methods should be fun, discovery-based, and concrete.
1 Early Learning Standard: Cognitive Development – Problem-Solving
The idea of building blocks can be useful for preschoolers' actual motor development, thinking ability, and effective solution-finding skills. Different items like blocks should be proactively given to the children so that they have to build different structures, which engages their problem-solving skills resulting from having to balance to create more structures.
2 Early Learning Standard: Linguistic Development – Vocabulary Expansion
Two other related and beneficial activities involve storytelling and role-play because they help expand the learners’ vocabulary. When children are allowed to play through stories and act in different stories, their language development is also improved through role play, thus teaching them new words.
