After reading the group members' assignments, it is clear that the main theme discussed is the need for clarification on acceptable religious practices in public schools. People have come to value the importance of freedom to worship over time, but various actions in educational institutions may violate this. An example is when students are required to recite a given prayer or a verse as a school activity. Consequently, this leads to a child being subjected to adhering to a given region, although this may not be their will. Furthermore, the court decision in the Santa Fe Independent School District v. DoeIt case illustrates that various school rules are inconsistent with the need for separation of state and church (Dow, 2009). Thus, the state and church are two different institutions; therefore, there is a need to ensure that rules created in the learning institution do not interfere with this.
