Understanding the importance of intellectual exchange is crucial for any reader. Undoubtedly, the exchange of information between the author and reader is crucial, not only for the sake of reading but also for its application in the outside world. Accordingly, the recent news regarding Crucet’s works has made me realize the importance of academic discussion in any kind of medium possible.
One of the things that made me realize this was Crucet’s discussion regarding assimilation. It must be noted that one of the most persistent themes in the book was the idea of cultural assimilation or the lack thereof. For example, she noted that as Latin Americans (particularly Cubans) migrate to the United States, they are forced to either assimilate into the American culture or resist change.
