Personas and Scenarios are research approaches that have been used by research designers since their discovery in the mid- 90’s. Persona means a way to summarize, and communicate research about people who have been observed or examined in some way. Scenarios are descriptions of one or more users interacting with a system or device to achieve individual goals under specific conditions.
Personas and Scenarios approaches have the significant impact in software designing since persona has made the work of research developers easy. They help in emphasizing and internalizing the mindset of people who use the designed software. Scenarios can be used in design sessions, walkthroughs, and usability test to ensure that the system design support users in the broad range of real life situations.
A persona is used in software development and team design to build empathy, develop focus, and communicate and form consensus. For instance, persona helps to prioritize how to design and what to create for users. Additionally, persona helps developers to define the software and the purpose of the software. Furthermore, persona helps in measuring the effectiveness of conception with real users. The implementation of a design can be tested by pairing persona with a scenario. Besides, personas also help users to make and defend decisions. They help protect users from biases that developers may have included in their design.
