There being no best approach, people prefer different leadership styles for efficient functioning of the organization. Based on the self-assessment, my style of leadership is more concerned with production at the same time concerned with the employees. Contingency theory of leadership best describes my leadership style. Contingency theory means matching skills versus the task ahead. Performance of staff is determined by certain individual traits with features of a situation. Leadership effectiveness using LPC (liking for the least preferred coworker) strategy. This means evaluating a situation to determine if it is favorable or unfavorable, then applying levels of control over subordinates based on the degree of structure in the task to be performed, the position of power and relation to the group (Greenberg, 2004).
As much as LPC contingency theory means having certain leadership traits combined with various features of a situation, all this process depends on the degree of the situation, this depends on how much the leader have control over their subordinates . For example based on the self-assessment I can describe my leadership style linking it to the principles of LPC contingency theory. As a leader, I preferred making decision myself but also explaining the reasons for my decision. If the condition of the situation is low means that a leader needs to exercise low control over employees by providing guidance to employees to accomplish the task. However in other situation there is the need for high degree of situation control to avoid the power position of a leader from being challenged by focusing on the job at hand (Greenberg, 2004).
