Writers use academic and discipline specific vocabulary. Writers emphasize evidence, often in tables, graphs, and images. Both writers have adopted a voice of authority. Huffaker (2005) notes von Stauffenburg’s opportunity would have ended the war instead of the two opportunities that Patton had. He adds that Patton’s success would have made the war more difficult for the Germans but would not have ended it. On the other hand, Alpaugh (2004) states that a century of the aviation industry, with the growing number of challenges it has faced, has changed the globe by bringing people closer to one another. He authoritatively adds that people have to be active participants in the field by flying.
Both writers offer responses to what other authors have noted regarding their topics. On one side, Huffaker (2005) quotes Green and Green (1998), who notes that Patton and his army, would not match German troops. On the other side, Alpaugh (2004) quotes Wells and Wensveen (2004), who state that there was need to form a body that would be in charge of transportation safety.
