Research Proposal on Patient Liaison
Throughout this course you will be conducting an original project. Projects can range from creative to academic based. The final selection is up to your creativity and your instructor’s approval but there must be a data analysis component. For example, if students want to continue their COM-355 research or build off their emphases by conducting a professional training testing and retesting the impact, a communication campaign with measures of effectiveness, a broadcast that involves audience analysis and feedback, or a politically related project. As the first step in this project you will compose a short (625-875 words) proposal to submit to your instructor and receive feedback.
In this proposal you must:
Formulate the research question or measure that will guide your research.
Establish the significance of your research to the field of communication.
Identify how this project will connect your insights from communication to other noncommunication fields you may interact with throughout your career.
Your proposal should use two to three authoritative sources, at least one of which must be peer reviewed.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Research Proposal on Patient Liaison
Research question: How does patient liaison facilitate effective communication between patients and their healthcare providers?
In particular, patient liaison or patient care advocacy is a crucial task that brings physicians and patients together. Although care providers can interact directly with the patients, in some cases, there exist barriers that hinder effective communication. That is the point when patient liaison becomes important in ensuring that healthcare providers and their patients can communicate well to enhance proper diagnosis and treatment. The primary reason that an individual proposed to focus on this topic is to reveal the importance of effective communication in the provision of quality healthcare services. For instance, whenever a sick person visits a hospital, one expects to get quality medical services without minding whether the doctor understands the language that an individual is using. In that light, without patient liaison to bridge the gap between patients and doctors, it can be challenging for physicians to comprehend the needs of sick people from distinctive cultures.
My study is significant to the field of communication in numerous ways. Notably, it emphasizes the importance of effective communication in the healthcare sector, which facilitates the delivery of quality medical services to all patients without discrimination. Caring demonstrates the unique capacity of humans to love God, His creation, themselves, and others. Compassion and excellence are the two primary aspects involved in responsible caring (Schultze, 2005). In addition, individuals are expected to gain relevant skills and experience so that they can serve others well. Communication entails sending the message so that it can be received and comprehended by the intended party before replying. Patient liaisons are communication experts who help patients and healthcare providers to understand one another. In some cases, physicians come across individuals from different cultures, races, religions, and ethnicities. During that time, the most significant thing is to know their patients’ needs regardless of the communication barriers that might occur. Patient liaison ensures that doctors can understand patients by neutralizing communication hindrances that might be there.
Specifically, my research is vital to the field of communication since it shows the importance of patient care advocacy. Patient liaison does not only bridge the gap between healthcare providers and patients, but these intermediaries address concerns that patients and their families might have during and after treatment. For example, when a family member is hospitalized, it can cause anxiety to other family members who might not know the medical procedures to be undertaken (Mottaghi et al., 2022). On that note, the only way to prevent such anxiety is to communicate with the family members and take them through the care process. Without effective communication, it can be stressful for care providers to deliver quality healthcare services t...
