Public Control of Broadcasting
Introduction: Public broadcasting is a wide media industry which mainly deals with radio, television and internet outlets. It can either be nationally or locally operated by either government or private companies. This is a debate paper which seeks to support the argument that government ownership on public broadcasting should not be ended.
The debate question is: "Should the government ownership of broadcasting in the media be ended?" and the answer is No.
At least every country throughout the world has at least one state-owned media broadcasting network. The government domination has therefore greatly assisted this Medias to retain their public focus, and not to solely make money through the selling of advertisements (McQuail, 1992).
Despite of the continued privatization of the state-owned companies, majority of the government has been reluctant when it comes to media broadcasting (Eltzroth et al, 2003). This because there are many advantages that accrue to the public due to the continued support and ownership of public broadcasting by the government.
