One of the best ways to become a better listener

Essay Instructions:
One of the best ways to become a better listener is to recognize when you’re being a bad listener and to realize what exactly it is that you’re doing that is making you a bad listener. That way, by identifying your bad listening habits, you can learn to break out of them! At the bottom of this prompt I’ve listed six bad listening factors, pulled straight from your textbook reading. For today’s assignment, you’re going to write about how you are sometimes guilty of these bad listening factors and how you can learn to be aware of your bad listening behavior and correct it. Specifically, I’d like you to write a paragraph about each factor. Remember, your paragraphs should provide at least one example of you being guilty of the particular bad listening factor and how you could have improved your behavior in your example. This review should not only help you recognize your poor listening habits—it should also help you explore how you can improve your listening behavior going forward. Each of your paragraphs should be written in the same Word document. Each paragraph should feature the factor being discussed above it as a subheading. When you have completed all six of your paragraphs, review your document for spelling, grammar and formatting mistakes and then submit it to the dropbox below. Factors in Bad Listening: • Laziness • Closed-mindedness • Opinionatedness • Insincerity • Boredom • Inattentiveness

One way to learn about this bad listening habit is to evaluate myself to check if I understood how communication started, the subject, and how it concluded. The conclusion part is essential in knowing if I listened to the end. For example, I am always guilty of asking questions the speaker has already answered in communication, only to be reminded by a communicator. One way to improve on my guilt is to try to remain alert. A possible way to do that is by becoming an active listener by asking questions. Closed-Mindedness I am guilty of this bad listening factor of closed-mindedness since I commit myself to one way of thinking straight. That implies I fail to recognize and appreciate diversity in views and reasoning. I can learn to be aware of this bad listening habit by identifying what influences my decisions. As a closed-minded person, I only associate or pursue what I know. In my case, I can give an example of guiltiness in this bad listening factor. For example, I always believe in something I already know, irrespective of how different people try to explain different perspectives. Notably, I am not adaptable to ideas that I do not know. I will improve this bad habit by embracing divergent views and trying to learn how other peoples' views tu...
