Hershey Company is the leading company in the production of chocolate and non-chocolate confectionary in North America. The company which was founded by Milton Hershey has grown with the changing economy and thrive ensuring it manages its employees in a manner that has led to its success. The companies mission involves winning an aligned and empowered organization while having fun (Ulrich, 1996) to survive in the. The company`s four values are to open possibilities by the embracement diversity seeking way to continue surviving in the market and grow together by enhancing human potential and mutual respect in the working environment. Other values include winning as a company while accepting each employee`s duties for the outcome results. The Hershey Company employs many employees of diverse groups who are required and need to understand performance from Hershey`s brands to the management system of the business.
The recommend is that the redesign of Hershey`s performance management system to appeal to the diverse groups that it employs by creating a working environment in its organization where the employees are involved in the management decision making and are responsible. According to Allen, et al. (2011) high performance working system is a set of management that tries to maximize employee`s knowledge, skill, commitment and flexibility. It is also recommended that in order to appeal to the diverse groups at Hershey`s the managers should make use of workers knowledge Ulrich (1996) defines knowledge workers as key specialization of employees in a company. The company should enhance the employee`s knowledge in various professions and customer knowledge, in Hershey there are many boomers who specialize in various areas and they pass knowledge to the younger generations leaving a legacy.
The other recommendation is the employees taking part in decision making this is essential because it allows employees to make decisions that are impacting their immediate environment and this in turn impacts the whole organization. Employees also feel empowered when they are involved and it strengthens the workforce by making it more dedicated. It is also recommended that employees training on the necessary skills for their working environment (Jain, et al. 2010).
Interpretation of the values Hershey embraces in relation to my role.
Being a Hershey`s employee it calls for interpretation of the values that Hershey embraces in relation to my roles as a company that believes in the ability of its employees to make decisions that benefit the company. Hershey`s is a company that also respects its employees and treats them in a fair and honest manner that is the key to the high production rate and workforce of the employees. The company values employees training in their special areas hence leading to increased efficiency in production and good quality production.
