Effective Communication
Effective communication and feedback in the place of work is of great importance to a successful working environment. As a manager of a business organization, there are a number of communication mediums that could be used to ensure effective communication in the workplace. In this paper, the most effective communication mediums for varying situations are discussed exhaustively. Specific examples of situations and why the preferred method should be utilized for communication are described.
Having open, regular meetings
Open meeting is a good approach for communicating effectively with employees. Using this type of communication medium, it is easier for the manager to communicate how he feels as well as to communicate his passion to the staff members. In a forum such as this, the employees would hear what the manager is saying and they would also be able to see and feel it (Timmins, 2011). Meetings could be utilized effectively in sharing and exchanging information, getting feedback, planning, collaborating and making major decisions for the business organization. Meeting regularly with staff members can help people to obtain essential information from one another. Regular meetings can also be held so as to create an opportunity for various layers of the company – contractors, interns, staff members and managers – to align around current organizational goals and priorities (Domagalski, 2015). Furthermore, meetings could be helpful in bringing colleagues and staffs together and actually make them feel as being part of the organization. Moreover, meetings also help in keeping everybody apprised of what is taking place in the organization. Having a meeting is the best way of communicating all important company business and ensuring that all employees hear it.
One-on-one, face-to-face communication
In an organization, some staff members are able to understand better when the manager takes them aside and talks to them on a face-to-face and one-on-one basis. When using this medium of communication, the manager will need to make sure that he maintains eye contact with the employees so as to enable the message being conveyed to sink in (Kupritz & Cowell, 2011). A lot of people feel uncomfortable to raise their problems, concerns or issues at a meeting. Things said over the telephone or written on an email could be misunderstood when the manager cannot see the person and read his or her body language. As such, having a face-to-face communication could a better communication medium in a situation such as this.
