Understanding the importance of a university’s administrative decisions is important for any student. It allows him to be able to be a part of a bigger community around him, thereby improving his capacity to make critical analysis as he goes out to the bigger world. Accordingly, one of the main news that happed these days in the Bethune-Cookman University was its decision to change its membership from the MEAC to SWAC. This change was approved by the school’s Board of Directors and was announced by Vic President Lynn Thompson in one of his video conferences in YouTube. Accordingly, this paper would critically analyze the implications of this policy in line with the circumstances that prompted it in the first place.
The Change in Membership
One of the main effects of this policy is the improvement of transportation and mobility for the students of Bethune-Cookman University. Previously, the university belongs to the MEAC, which meant that it belongs to an entirely different regional team where its member universities are at farther geographic region as compared to SWAC. This prompted the need to use flights as a means of travel in order to attend conferences and tournaments for the team. Nonetheless, one of the main policy implications of this change is the reduction of travel expense for both the team and their supporting audience.
