After watching the YouTube video on model building for Blade Runner 2049, I am impressed by the amount of effort and attention to detail that goes into creating physical models for a film of this scale. The video shows the process of designing and building intricate models of futuristic buildings, vehicles, and landscapes used in the film's visual effects. The filmmakers wanted to create a tangible and natural world, and using physical models helped achieve that goal.
Undoubtedly, 3D computer-generated imagery (CGI) has revolutionized the film industry and allowed filmmakers to create fantastic worlds and creatures that would have been impossible to achieve with physical models alone. However, physical models still have a place in today's films, especially in the sci-fi, action, and superhero genres.
Firstly, physical models can provide an authenticity that is difficult to achieve with CGI. In the case of Blade Runner 2049, the physical models gave the filmmakers a sense of scale and texture that helped create a real world. The physical models also created natural shadows and reflections, which added to the overall believability of the film's visuals.
