This week has been quite eye-opening for me, as I got the chance to learn new concepts relating to cooperatives. Initially, I used to think that cooperatives are based on simple, loosely-knit terms between their members. During the week, however, I have learned that there are binding agreements that are quite formal and enforceable. I learned about the marketing orders and the marketing agreements, which are binding in different ways. The marketing order is a binding regulation for the entire industry in the specified geographical area, while the marketing agreement is only binding for those handlers that sign the agreement.
