Understanding the importance of licensing in today's context is essential for any business owner and manager alike. Licensing is one of the processes wherein a company allows another company to produce or manufacture its product within a given area or territory in exchange for a sum of fee. In this article, the author would like to focus on one advertisement posted by ColourPop on its Tropical Escape Collection. Based on the company profiles and market research, the author believes that this collection is pursuant to a licensing agreement between the companies.
One of the reasons the author believes that this is a licensing business is its label. In fact, one of the most apparent pieces of information in the advertisement is the disclaimer regarding licensing agreement with Sanrio Co., Ltd. Sanrio is a Japanese company that primarily creates, manufactures, and licenses product lines with its product collection CITATION San22 \l 1033 (Sanrio.com, 2022). Thus, the disclaimer on the advertisement provides explicitly short yet effective information for their clients that their tropical collection has a valid and existing license with Sanrio Corp.
Aside from the fine print, another detail that shows the licensing agreement between these corporations is the corporate systems of each company. As stated earlier, Sanrio is a company that prioritizes manufacturing and licensing business.
