The Effects of Obamacare
The Obamacare aims at creating market places where people could buy regulated, subsidized private insurance rather than sell health insurance covers. Under Obamacare, people would buy medical insurance through states and hence would not be able to keep their doctors (Coglianese, 2014). Thus, many people would lose doctors they had trusted for a long time. There are varied plans depending on the income earned per year and those earning more pay a higher percentage for the Obamacare. The personal insurance plans are would be cancelled and can only keep them until 2015. However, those who do not enroll in Obamacare would keep their plans, though would be charged for not enrolling. The cost to persons who enroll did not go below $ 2500.00 per year as expected. In fact, CBO estimates that individuals in the lowest category, bronze, would pay $ 5920 in 2014 and an annual cost ranging between $4500 and $5800 in 2016 (Obamacare Facts, N.D). There are various reasons that for this high cost. High costs are due to factors considered before subsidies are applied and include locations, age, income and status of smoking. For instance, age affects premiums while taxable income determines the insurance program. Smoking leads to tobacco surcharges. Thus, factors influencing insurances before subsidies have contributed to higher costs than expected.
Obamacare has been hit by the Veterans Affair administration (VA) scandal which has led to several deaths of patients as they wait for care and many claims for delays.
