It is an honor for me to be selected as the new district manager for Starbucks and, most importantly, have been allowed to expand the company to five other new locations. As much as this is new territory to me, I also would like to take the challenge and prove my worth in the company by ensuring that the five divisions work effectively and their performance is high. Having a new division will automatically have its challenges, such as cultural differences, legal and regulatory challenges, and the fear of the unknown. However, I believe my two years in the company have given me enough experience and skills to handle the challenges head-on. My goal for the five divisions is to maintain the high standards of quality that Starbucks is known for, the high customer service, and improved financial performance. Additionally, I must nurture the company's core values in all the locations, maintaining its reputation. This paper will outline my plan for the job design, including the job description and specification, as well as my hiring, training, and management plans.
Job Design
Job description
A job description can be defined as a document that outlines the responsibilities, duties, and requirements of a specific job position. It guides the employee in understanding their role in the organization and what is expected of them. The barista will be responsible for crafting and delicious serving coffee and other beverages to our customers, maintaining a clean and organized store, and providing exceptional customer service. On the other hand, the shift supervisor will help manage the store operations during their shifts, such as ensuring cleanliness and that the clients are served appropriately. The store manager will ensure that all aspects of the store operations, such as hiring, training, and finances, are completed, and they will collaborate with me. On the other hand, the bakers will be responsible for preparing everything required for the baking department, while finally, the cleaners will be responsible for the store's cleanliness.
Job specification.
Job specification is the list of requirements the applicants must have to be considered for a particular job. They include the level of education, experience, and other specifications such as qualities (Management Study Guide, 2023). Its primary goal is to give candidates an overview of a particular job requirement to grasp better the skills required, the facts about job responsibilities, and how to evaluate themselves to determine whether they are qualified to apply. The job specifications will be divided into entry-level or expert levels. Entry-level employees such as cleaners and baristas require little or no expertise. However, they need to have attained a high school diploma, and they need to show the qualities of good customer service. The leaders, including shift supervisors, will require at least two years of experience in the same role, and bakers will need to have gone through the hospitality school and have years of experience. For all employees, cultural competency is vital because, at Starbucks, various clients with different cultures come into the store. Additionally, all the employees must have the willingness to learn and positive customer relations.
Hiring Plan
Over the years, I have learned that attracting and retaining the best talents is crucial for maintaining the organizational reputation and being among the top leading company in the food and beverage sector. The development of the hiring plan should be a combined effort of me and the human resource, as they are specifically trained to utilize talent management strategies to recruit the employees that fit the organizational needs (Wardlaw, 2019). First, we need to clearly define the job requirements and the qualifications required for the job, then advertise through various platforms to ensure that we have a diverse pool of candidates. In Starbucks, employee diversity has helped maintain our co...
