Personal Vision of Ethical Business Behavior: A Statement
Modern work environments and social interactions are commonplace for ethical dilemmas. Therefore, as part of the educational development, people must have an idea of their ethical perceptions, based on acquired knowledge, experience, and existing guidelines, to better inform their behavior and reactional outcomes when they encounter an ethical situation. The development of an ethical statement may help to serve this purpose. The development of an ethical statement requires the identification of personal goals and influences besides the environmental factors that influence these personal goals.
Identification of Goals and Personal Influences
My personal ethical goals include integrity, honesty, loyalty, equality & fairness, empathy & respect, and dependability. Integrity refers to the ability to have strong moral principles. Integrity helps in shaping good relationships and the establishment of a good reputation. However, integrity cannot be achieved in the absence of honesty. Like integrity, honesty helps to enhance relationships and reputation. Having good relationships and a reputation in the business arena is essential because it earns other people's trust. For instance, people should trust that I can deliver a product or services they are seeking without complications. Since integrity and honesty build trust, it helps to shape loyalty. Client, business partners, and colleagues will be willing to work with me when I am loyal to providing solutions to their problems. In this case, it implies that I am dependable. The ability to provide promised services or products or complete tasks or projects within a specified period is what people want in the business world. When I am dependable, it means people can trust me.
Further, in a world where personal interests appear to conquer the idea of good for all, my goal is to develop empathy & respect and, equality & fairness. I believe that empathy is key to understanding other people's problems or challenges within the context in which they live.
