Personal Model of Leadership
Part 1
Individual
The three terminal values on the list I chose for my model in leadership are World peace, Salvation, and National Security. These values come into play because I believe that we live in a world that is so filled with hatred, regardless of who it may be. Hatred had taken on its legs and walk, disrupting the hearts of people.
We are living in a world of the free. However, there is no peace. We lay awake at night wondering how safe we are, but for our children and grandchildren, the world needs to be a safer place. World peace is important because it promotes social and economic prosperity not only at the individual level but at the international level. Bellamy (2019) proposes that world peace can be achieved through peace campaigns and advocacy. I would promote world peace by being a member of an organization that advocates for peace. My primary contribution in such an organization would be writing letters to people who have the power to bring change, such as ending the war in a war zone. The second value is salvation; I was not always saved, but raised in the church, taught the importance of keeping your word, respect, and working for what you want. As the sixth child among thirteen, my responsibility was to keep my younger siblings in line, ensuring they did what was right and respecting all adults. Attending church was a part of our weekly ritual; it was a way of life, growing into responsible adults, and being accountable for your action because they always had consequences. As a leader, I want to be recognized for my salvation and how it imparts on my morality and that of my followers. This will also lead to ethical practices within the organization. There seems always to be an opportunity for other countries to tap into national security. We need to be prepared so that hackers are not so quickly persuaded to hack into the protection of the USA. Also, national security starts with individuals and organizations. I want to be recognized as a leader who puts security first. I will achieve this by promoting a culture of security within the organization so that every person understands that security starts with them.
Interpersonal
The interpersonal value needed every day in the workplace and elsewhere, is integrity and honesty. These two values, honesty, and integrity are two crucial ingredients that make a good leader. As a leader, when you lack the qualities of honesty and integrity, can you expect your followers to be honest? The best way for leaders to succeed is when they stick to their core beliefs, and without ethics, this will not be possible. Integrity and honesty enhance trust in interpersonal relationships (Saleem et al., 2020). I want my followers to see me as a trustworthy leader so they can emulate my actions and become trustworthy to customers and society in general.
One has to be confident enough to ensure that others follow your commands as a leader. You cannot be unsure about your own decisions and qualities; if so, your subordinates will never track you. Leaders have to be oozing with confidence, show some swagger and assertiveness to respect their associates. It is a difficult task for leaders to persuade others to follow.
Organizational
A value that is necessary from the perspective of an organization is vision, and a leader must display a leader's role to be successful. The importance is for a leader to focus on key responsibilities while leaving the rest to other employees. What I mean is empower your followers and delegate tasks to them. Steve Jobs, the most incredible visionary of our time, answers this question this way, "Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower." To get ahead in today's fast-paced world, a leader must be creative and innovative at the same time. Creative thinking and constant innovation are what make you and your team stand out from the crowd". (Jobs, Steve)
Societal
The societal value that I feel is important is empathy, Leaders should develop empathy. Unfortunately, when leaders follow a dictatorial style of leadership, they forget to have empathy for their employees’ altogether and fail to connect closer. When you as the leader understand the problems of your followers and you can relate to the pain is the first step to become an effective leader. As a leader, I want my followers to know that I understand their needs and they can count on me to help them meet these needs. This will enhance their commitment and loyalty to me and the organization (Saleem et al., 2020).
Part 2
Influence on Individual and Group Behavior
Servant leadership can influence both individual and group behavior. Some of my personal values of servant leadership that can influence individual and group behavior include empathy, persuasion, and the ability to build a community with my followers. In addition, my personal model of leadership is centered on integrity, honesty, peace, and empathy, as well. At an individual level, these values can positively influence individual performance and commitment to the organization. A...
