Introduction
Lululemon Athletica is a retailer company that manufactures and sells a variety of athletic wear. The company was started by Chip Wilson in 1998. Wilson attended a commercial yoga class in Vancouver, and found the results to be pleasing. However, he found the cotton clothing used for sketchy power yoga to be very inappropriate. In 1998, he started a design studio that offered yoga clothing made of performance fabrics. Through rapid expansion, quality product line, effective management and sound sales strategy, Lululemon transformed into a multi-store enterprise. This case study seeks to analyze these strategies and how effective they were in transforming Lululemon.
The company operated under management that realized, the only way to grow was ensuring employees worked in a supportive and goal-oriented environment. My analysis indicates that employees were advised to set goals, aimed at achieving their professional, healthy and personal potential. Furthermore, employees attended the Landmark seminar, whose theme was to encourage employees to think outside existing limits. According to Gamble (2014), any company that wishes to execute effectively its business strategy, must view the workforce as a valuable resource and provide adequate training programs. Additionally, the driving culture and philosophy at Lululemon was well prescribed, and was known as “The Lululemon manifesto.”
