Unit II: Comparison of Facebook and Amazon’s Mission and Vision Statements
While both Facebook and Amazon rank among the top 100 companies in the Fortune 500 list, it should be duly noted that these two are some of the most influential companies and ones that continue to redefine the future for America and for the world. In this sense, both the mission and vision statements of both companies have a significant influence on the way they are perceived and why they are extremely successful in their own niches.
As far as their vision statements go, both of these companies demonstrate an intense commitment to not only providing a service, but also to embodying core values that define the company (Carter & Roebuck, 2006). In its vision statement, Facebook states that “People use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, to discover what’s going on in the world, and to share and express what matters to them.” This vision is representative not only of what Facebook does and believes in, but also what it hopes to continue doing for the foreseeable future. On the other hand, Amazon’s vision statement is “to be Earth’s most customer-centric company, where customers can find and discover anything they might want to buy online.” In both of these statements, the companies portray a vision of providing value consistently to the public and their customers.
In their mission statements, both Amazon and Facebook look to demonstrate a commitment to their values, vision, and their customers. Facebook’s mission statement is “to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.” On the other hand, Amazon’s is “We strive to offer our customers the lowest possible prices, the best available selection, and the utmost convenience.” In both of these cases, it clearly emerges that the companies seek to demonstrate the importance of their mission not only to their customers, but also to the rest of the world (Carter & Roebuck, 2006). This is perhaps why both of these statements are concise and in line with the vision statements of both companies. This is an effective way of delivering a consistent message to the public, which the mission and vision statements of both Facebook and Amazon manage to effectively do. It is also worth noting that both the mission and vision statements of the two companies are grounded in their core principles.
