There is a conglomerate of employee training delivery methods and techniques that could be used to equip your employees with the appropriate and requisite skills they require in the workplace to increase work productivity, reduce costs, or initiate change. Some of these methods include, work shadowing, integrated orientation programs, interactive e-learning programs, simulations, temporary job attachments, in-company workshops, and many others. It poses a daunting challenge to choose the most effective technique to employ for particular employees, however, when choosing a training delivery method certain factors should be put in perspective. One should be the goals of the training and the persons being trained, the budgetary constraints, time limits and resources available (Trentin, 2010).
As technology continues to proliferate and become ubiquitous, it is becoming the preferred medium for training delivery method through interactive e-learning or web-based learning. The technique involves using texts, videos, images, animations, simulations, or other electronic media. The biggest advantage of its use is its cost effectiveness. Compared to the other modes, interactive e learning can be applied with limited funds and is still viable for distant learning. It is mostly combined with the different methods to form blended learning. The employees can take extra courses without significant additional costs (Trentin, 2010).
According to Hall and LeCavalier (2000b), the economic corporate benefits for using e-learning quoting IBM that switched from traditional forms to e learning in 1999 saving them $200 million. IBM discovered they used only a third of their initial costs and imparted five times the taught skills to their employees. The future of e learning is bright with no signs of abatement but rather further diversity in its use. More application are being incorporated in smart phones and tablets such as Apple’s and LoudCloud tool for delivery of textbook and learning materials. Other new forms of e learning that are cropping up include use of crowd sourcing, video gaming, and social media (Hall & LeCavalier, 2002).
