Cultural sensitivity can be a factor in identification of risk factors during crisis communication because being culturally aware ensures that right measures to plan and hinder risk are taken. For example, in a workplace environment where there are people from diverse backgrounds, cultural awareness helps an organization plan and come up with culturally sensitive messages so that they do not leave out any group. Further, cultural sensitivity allows cultural misunderstandings or biases from developing during a crisis. For instance, when there is cultural sensitivity, risk factors such as lack of information about a certain community can be eliminated to ensure free flow of messages (Fatima, 2013). As a manager, cultural awareness should be a major focus in crisis communication. Being aware ensures that the right messages are passed across to the right people to ensure that things are done effectively and timely during the crisis.
