Understanding the various types of leadership is important for anyone. It allows him to be more flexible and effective in managing others depending on the circumstances and relationships present in any organization. Accordingly, some of the various leadership approaches as discussed by Northouse (2015), are the transformational, cultural, and behavioral approaches, among others. This reflection would focus mostly on the “trait approach” which is one of the oldest types of leadership paradigms that are still currently in use until today.
The ‘Trait approach to leadership is a very straightforward paradigm in understanding the qualities of a leader and applying them to one’s practice. Particularly, this approach provides that a leader could be identified by some “standard qualities” that would indicate who is capable of leading or not.
